Gary Soup is the the perpetrator of Shanghaibites.com and author of this blog. He also is owner of eatingchinese.org, a website with a global look at Chinese food, and a related blog The Gary Soup Blog. In addition, he is sitting on the xiaolongbao.com domain name (heh heh). He is a retired transport planner with an abiding interest in all aspects of Chinese food and its place in the world, but ius especially fond of Shanghai’s small eats. He has a Shanghainese wife who happens to be a good cook and consequently is fortunate to be served home-cooked Chinese food (of the Shanghainese persuasion) nearly every day. He lives in San Francisco, but spends as much time as he can in Shanghai, and also prowls the sreets of Montreal and New York City at least yearly.
Shanghai Bites essays to uncover the best of the “xiao chi” experience in Shanghai, as well as other comfort foods and occasional glimpses at “the other half” of food in Shanghai. It is not intended to be an overview of the entire body of Shanghainese cuisine, or a guide to sit-down restaurants.
Gary, it would be nice to connect by email if you are interested.
